State of SQL Server Developer market

Ive been contracting solidly in SQL Server for the past 2 years. Finished my last contract 2 weeks ago and my CV is up on all the job website boards.

But its been very quiet and im not getting very many calls.

Is anyone experiencing the same thing?Im wondering why its so quiet at the moment, given that the economy is strong?

Project manager buddy of mine said the same to me the other day.

Nah there are loads of jobs in .net and that out there...and also people have known for ages that the
outcome of the election will be a hung parliament...so I doubt If companies are being hesistant upon this.

I think the economy is weaker than suggested by the breathless media who are jumping on the "aren't we doing so well compared to those chumps in other countries" band wagon.

Regardless, the little growth that is showing in the silly gdp metric is probably not much more than a reflection of growth in the working age population, housing bubble knock-on effects and a few fudge factors here and there.

I am in SQL Server dev as well. While not actively looking for next contract I have been scanning jobserve daily just to get a feel for what is out there. My feeling is that there is a lot more available than there was in '13 and '14. When you say its been quiet do you mean you have applied for roles but not had calls back? Or not found suitable roles to apply for? Do you have any particular niches/sectors that you are limiting yourself to?

I found the market to be quite strong in my most recent search (last 2 weeks or so)

I started looking in March a couple of weeks before my last contract ended. Had a couple of telephone interviews but nothing came of them. First weekend after leaving contract, see a gig advertised online, applied, had interview the following Wednesday and was offered the role the same day. Just waiting for background checks etc to go through, should be starting a week on Monday. It may have been that people were waiting for the new tax year to start, but there are still roles out there. Maybe not as many as there used to be, but that's where your CV, interview technique, and willingness to travel a bit come into play

                SQL Dev here too.
