In my last permie job, we had an exclusive deal with one agency at 8 or 9% margin. We still got other agencies flinging CVs over to us because they'd heard we were looking and thought they'd give it a shot.
And how do they hear you are looking?

Take a look at the I Just Need 2 References thread and others.

They all are as bad as one another but some are less scrupulous. They would all skin their grandma for a tenner.

I don't really know why you wouldn't tell them you were in for the role already.
Because they might phone the client and say you're not available for an interview etc anything to remove their competition, why take the risk ?

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I must be very naive, would agents actually do this sort of thing?

          Hijacking thread slightly...

Why would a client sign an exclusivety deal with an agent?

Because it's easier to deal with one w**ker ringing you than 3-5.

I've had quite a few roles where one agency has exclusivity.

              I won't have a second doubt.

It's none of their business so you don't have to say anything. I normally say "I am going to respect the other agency's situation, as I would with yours if someone wanted to know what roles you have".

I often have agencies call about a role but I've already considered the role via a different agent. Be honest and straight and the agents will respect you. Don't lie, play it straight and don't give away info to other agencies. Simples

Especially where you can have 1, 2 and 3 tier w**nkers all taking a margin so it's always worth asking whether they are first tier w**nker and if they are not, put up your rate 15% right up front.

I would like to not inform the agent that my CV is already there but don't know what else to say apart from "I am not interested thank you", which would work but seem odd if I am a good fit.
"I've worked there before and I would rather look for new challenges than revisit old ground. Sorry, thanks, bye".
