Lloyds - Closed Shop?

LOL! They truely are bulltulipters at LBG \ LTSB. But come on, what did you say to the HM when they said your notice was a surprise? Did they think you were jesting being an ejit or just a greedy fecker?

I know loads of contractors and a fair few agencies who are pissed off with their crap attitude.

Strange thing is, I've got a lot of connections in LBG, stretching back 15 years (but from the HBOS heritage) and the HM knows me well enough and has done for several years, so I would have expected that she'd know exactly what I would do.

It's only the second time I've had a rate cut in 20 years contracting, so not too bothered about it. Last time was Lloyds as well, strangely enough, and I was back in 7 weeks later on a higher rate than the one they tried to cut Have no doubt it will be the same, although the warchest is healthy and I've got a 'working' plan B that's been running 2 years now (not IT related at all) and also have a band that's been incredibly busy this year and is booked solid until after xmas. so no time for a 'proper' contract role

I remember you saying before about the previous rate cut then going back soon after on a higher rate. Just shows there's some ejits in some HR \ Accounting Departments.

No real answer to my original question - in peoples view, is the interference with another contract on the level or acceptable. If I were any other limited company, selling staples and paper etc. my guess is that activity would be unacceptable and if I could prove, something to pursue for damages - lost contract etc. I'll idle on that thought.

I have agreed to discuss renewal with existing HM in 4 days. I will contact other division following that. See what happens there... Am looking elsewhere but trawling through the 'fake' jobs is a pain.

Some blunt comments - however I've read what I think are warnings about IR35 and sailing far to close to the wind, thanks for that, will be more mindful to be accurate in dealings here.

I posted a question for advice, I'm getting some answers where people are trying to catch me out ? Don't understand that. For the chap who asked how I can be both a first timer and also comment that I am quickly taken off market. This refers to the time I spent looking for my first contract before I had firm offer - as I was coming from permanent - which was a week. And also the time I spent on market before the strong interest from the other Division in Lloyds - a week, well before the current HM queered the pitch.

Agree that Lloyds are a funny bunch, the dead wood comment is not wholly unfair. Then again, a lot of UK companies are filled with oddballs and masters of passive aggressive rubbish. In Lloyds, I couldn't believe when 'colleagues' left at 2:30 to go home early to walk the dog, not sure if thats as innocent as it sounds... Then again, who pays the piper and all that.

You were given a real answer and you chose to ignore it.

As a contractor you do not have the same rights as a permanent employee.

That means if a department head decides they don't want you to move to another department they can stop it. You are a temporary resource who has been taken on to do work in one specific department. If that work is not finished with then they are within their rights to prevent you moving.

AS bad as Lloyds may be, and I've heard a few horror stories both here and in real life, the idea of being able to walk to work appeals to me and so I'd love to contract there.

Doesn't mean that after that first contract, once I'd seen the horror first hand I wouldn't walk though.

I've contracted for with Lloyds before and would certainly consider it again. I had no issues at all with them.

No need to worry for long, if your posting this from a Lloyds PC your line manager will get a copy of all your internet activities at month end
