Surely indeed.co.uk would be the best as it is just an aggregator of all the other sites mentioned and a load hat haven't been?

+1 although the search algorithm is a bit crap and results in a large amount of chaff, but if you are on the bench you should have plenty of time to sift through it.

Indeed is pretty good for aggregating the bigger job boards and direct adverts but I find its search results do miss out some good smaller/specialist agents and there is a lot of repetition.

It's a little bemusing to find that many of the main IT job boards have shockingly bad search functionality! But from my personal searches over the last few months, I'd say the best sites for contract roles in descending order are:

Jobserve (more than twice as many as any other site)
        CWjobs
        Technojobs
        Reed
        Totaljobs

LinkedIn is the best site for perm jobs but I personally haven't seen any contract roles on there.

Funny, my first post on CUK asked the very same question and I was slammed too.

So I uploaded my CV to quite a few sites and kept a record of where agents would say they found my details. Two clear winners well ahead of the others were jobsite and cv-library.

Just recently I uploaded my CV again, this time to 10 sites in total, all in the same evening, including the main ones mentioned in this thread. In this round I haven't been asking agents how they found me but of those that volunteered the info *all* have quoted cv-library as the source.

Number of cold calls doesn't necessarily translate to plausible leads though. cv-library is geared mainly for permiedom, you need to highlight 'contract only' in the profile and still be prepared for calls about permie roles. I've had some leads through LinkedIn although none made it to contract yet. Also don't dismiss simply uploading a PDF to your own webspace to be indexed by Google, with enough buzzwords it will get hits from agents / potential clients (I know mine does).
