    “ Foreign truckers bringing freight to Britain have raised their prices by almost 700pc over fears of getting stranded in the UK or not being able to secure loads for the return journey.

    Hauliers who previously charged €1.50 per kilometre now want €10 because of the impact of new Brexit customs controls, according to the Road Haulage Association.

    The trade body said it had alerted ministers to the price hikes, warning them that the fallout from Brexit has the “potential to impact EU-GB trade” as the hidden costs of Britain leaving the trading bloc become clear.

    Richard Burnett, RHA chief executive, added: “Hauliers are raising their prices for trips to the UK because of fears about disruption, getting held up by new paperwork and a lack of certainty that they can get ‘back loads’ for the return journey to make it worthwhile.” ”

            Had a driver in Hamburg Germany empty on Saturday morning. Due to load at 07:00 this morning with Dairy products for Shepton Mallet. Waited all day to be told maybe loading tomorrow if paperwork can be correctly prepared by then. Another 24hrs minimum.


            Driver in Calais that has to go back to Berlin due to incorrect Customs documents and Health Certificates. 1900km, 2 & 1/2 day round trip.


            I’ve heard of trailers of meat being refused clearance & entry to France due to minor issues such as crates of hooks in the back of trailer and lambs fallen onto the floor (which is very common for the odd lamb to slip) & dirty trailers.


            There is a massive amount of confusion with Customs documents, a huge lack of resources and training. 10 customs officers checked 1 seal on one of my trailers in Calais and my driver asked what was happening. They told him 9 were training. Even the customs don’t seem to know what they are doing.


            Had a few calls today from BBC, RHA, various radio stations and newspapers. Told them all what issues we are having.


            We have a film crew with us tomorrow heading from loading point to Calais with lambs for Germany. Hopefully they can see for themselves what we are up against.


            What we need is for the supply chain to break down and supermarkets to run dry, only when the supermarkets run out of produce is when the national press get involved & the public really get to hear about it.


            I’m sure the people who contacted me today will read this thread so please comment below any experiences you have had and also tag anyone who may like to comment.


            Also has anyone else noticed less European trucks on the UK road network???


            Also we are not strangers to customs clearance. We have done many loads to Norway & Switzerland. None of that was ever as complicated as what we are doing now.

            Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
