Not only UK, I've heard the same for others, the main reason is that - mostly business- people who travel a lot to the middle east to both Israel and Arab (Saudi in particular) countries, they use one passport for Israel and the other for Arab countries -
I used to have 2 UK passports as I had Israeli stamps in one and then had to visit Saudi and Egypt.
