Apparently the "emails were missed" asking them if they wanted to participate in the first round but anyway:

Downing Street announced a U-turn over the EU-wide ventilator procurement scheme. A spokesman for No 10 said the UK did not receive an invitation in time to join in the first effort to procure ventilators and other equipment “owing to an initial communication problem”.

What a load of nonsense. Its not buying power, or a procurement scheme that is needed. Its just companies to make them.

Lets face it, if we were in such a scheme and a UK manufacturer made 100K that would somehow be 90k for the EU and 10K for us.

It's quite funny that Brexit Boris has asked his Brexit supporting chums at JCB and Dyson to make ventilators when they've never made them before meaning they have to design it, re-jig productions lines and then get it through regulation. Probably won't be ready for at at least a month or so.

9 Days ago, the Tory government was contacted by the ventilator manufacturer Direct Access with an offer to upscale their existing production to provide 5,000 new ventilators - the company have heard nothing since. MEC Medical, which is an existing manufacturer of ventilator parts, also contacted the government about upscaling production - the company have heard nothing from the government.
