Did the guy you used have good previous feedback? Strange that you didn't look at their Facebook page before engaging them. That's one of the first things I do if I'm using a business for the first time..

I employed builder to build an 'L' shaped double car port/double garage, 15 months later (approx. 10 months after kicking 1st builder offsite) we are suing him for £30K (we paid him (26K) to repair/make structurally good the abortion he tried to build. He didn't reach wall plate level before he was sacked. Then he tried to sue us for loss of earnings under a staged payment contract. That first builder was on all of the trades site I mentioned. They all claim that each builder has been checked and has appropriate insurance. What a load of b*ll*cks those claims are. Just because someone is registered on a web site does not mean they have a scooby doo what they are doing.

After we sacked him we found his facebook page - I wish I looked him up earlier

PS on his building co facebook page you can see pictures of my building which is exactly how not to build double skin block walls
You never thought to read the testimonials on those sites? I've had to read through hundreds in the last couple of years, but guess what? Everyone I've hired for a job has been excellent.
You should be aware that some cowboys claim to be "recommended" on those sites when they aren't, and if it takes you more than 10 mins to find out whether they are genuine, you might want to think about changing your username...

Good news - after Brexit former VB6 contractors will be retrained to work as plumbers.

Guess you won't be making the same mistake again. . . .

PS I am currently/have gone through this process now building a double car port and double garage construction. I did all my own planning drawings on Visio

What a coincidence .... 2 people doing the same kind of building project at the same time. Shame Yorkie isn't still a member of CUK, he could have compared notes with The DB's

OK just to complete the picture for you. When we hired him we was working at our neighbours (OK so they are 400m away but they are our closest neighbours) doing some insurance building work, which the insurance co. was happy with as was our neighbours. Although the work performed at the neighbours wasn't at large a construction as ours, perhaps our job was just too big for him and he found himself our of his depth. He made some basic errors, like using 3.7Nm blocks on the external walls, and he subcontracted the block work to another building co AJ Barnham (you can find them on facebook too) who clearly didn't have a scooby how to build block work walls.

You still here? I'd have thought you'd be frantically booking your passage to your safe place before Oct 31st. We will need a few idiots after then, just to balance the books, but you'd be dragging the team down so low we'd be needing scuba gear...
