This is a UK Court ruling and not and EU directive. It will be interesting to read the Judgment when published. The whole saga about EU immigration in the UK is caused by the UK not implementing the rules which other EU countries seem to implement without difficulty.

If people from the EU cannot support themselves, they should be send back just like what happens in all other EU countries.

Don't blame the EU for your incompetent government.

        "The measure, introduced last year...)

When last year? While May was still Home Secretary? Lol.

That's not true though is it. If you get a low paid job which is easy to do. You will then receive tax benefits to top up your wage. In effect it's nearly impossible to not support yourself.

You can't stop the benefit as that would be discrimination.

In 2015, the Government turned its attention to in-work benefits for EU citizens as the next ‘problem’ that needed to be solved. Prior to the 2015 Election, David Cameron proposed that EU citizen migrants could be denied in-work benefits (e.g. tax credits) until they had been in the UK for four years. This proposal was agreed at a meeting of the European Commission in February 2016 in an effort to reach a “new settlement” for the UK. The agreement provides that access to in-work benefits can be limited to newly-arrived EU workers in the UK for up to four years in order to (take into account of the “pull factor arising” from the UK’s in-work benefits regime.
