It will be 5 years. No chance May will call an election before that. And no chance of one being forced upon her. Since she bribed the DUP to support her. -
And I can't see the DUP not playing ball given who Corbyn would get into bed with.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostIt will be 5 years. No chance May will call an election before that. And no chance of one being forced upon her. Since she bribed the DUP to support her.Comment

If you mean SF, you're being silly. It would be political suicide.Originally posted by The_Equalizer View PostAnd I can't see the DUP not playing ball given who Corbyn would get into bed with.
Agree that DUP will play ball just to keep Corbyn out.Comment

She only bought them for 2 years, not all 5.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostIt will be 5 years. No chance May will call an election before that. And no chance of one being forced upon her. Since she bribed the DUP to support her.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

It wouldn't happen - SF will not sit in the UK parliament as it requires taking the Oath of Allegiance.Originally posted by northernladyuk View PostIf you mean SF, you're being silly. It would be political suicide.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

You're probably right. May won't call a GE. But how long can May remain as leader of the Conservatives?Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostIt will be 5 years. If SF had any intention of getting into the UK parliament, they'd have done it to scupper may's deal with the DUP. There is zero chance of that happening. When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....Comment

Theoretically Corbyn could be up to some undercover plot with SF to sell the Unionists down the river, which didn't involve SF support in Westminster, but such a bizarre idea could only take root in the more paranoid conspiracy nutjobs in NI (about 20% of the population).Originally posted by TestMangler View PostThis ^^

Well, theoretically what he would want to do is offer them a referendum in NI to take place based on them taking the oath. If that referendum was lost by the unionists then there would be 18 less seats in the commons which would mean a majority would be 317 (coincidentally the number of conservative MPs currently)Originally posted by northernladyuk View PostTheoretically Corbyn could be up to some undercover plot with SF to sell the Unionists down the river, which didn't involve SF support in Westminster, but such a bizarre idea could only take root in the more paranoid conspiracy nutjobs in NI (about 20% of the population).…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

They will never take the oath, and SF abstentionism is more complex than just the oath.Originally posted by WTFH View PostWell, theoretically what he would want to do is offer them a referendum in NI to take place based on them taking the oath. If there was a border poll, the united Ireland would lose big. And there's not much of an appetite in the Republic in at least the short term. I doubt SF want a border poll, but it's good politics to demand one and complain that you haven't got one. SF are stuck in view that 50% + 1 vote is enough to 'win', with no concept of the necessity of making a united Ireland more palatable to a section of the Unionist community, if that is possible.Comment
