I could choose to retire and pay one off tax, and then the Govt would give jack tulip (other than VAT on purchases and occasional stamp duty), or I could just move somewhere where I don't get taxed as much and eat a lot of popcorn whilst posting on this site, very tempting really...
I was talking about marginal rate they pay - 40% tax band, 13.8% employer NIC, 2% employee - 55% rate
One needs to factor in multiplier of those people spending money on VATable stuff, more booze etc.
The Govt is the biggest benefactor from these jobs.
There are over 8000 EU companies currently trading in the uk that would require passporting rights. No doubt many already have offices here but those that don't either need to open one or stop work in the uk.
