    Hi Dom,

I've had the exact same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago and yes the management company involved was Resource Solutions.

I was taken in a room with the Resource Solutions account manager, a manager from the banking IT division and then told that the client was terminating the contract but willing to pay me 3 weeks notice whilst I will remain offsite.

Can you confirm if this is common practise or have I dont something for them to terminate in this manner.

I was on site for 3 months and the contract was 12 months.

Any insight on how this business is managed would greatly help me understand the termination as I currently feel quite afraid of what may have instigated the termination

Bonus if you ask me getting paid for 3 weeks when you're not there.

Who knows why client did this? As NLUK says there could be a multitude of reasons. Some of them make sense some don't - at the end of the day you're a contractor so they aint going to tell you. If it suits them to get rid then its gonna happen.

I used to work with a contractor when I was permie. Cracking fella really knew his stuff and did tons of good work. But he was staying over monday-friday and, despite working his nuts off went home 3pm on a friday (with local PM agreement). Of course, some manager higher up found out, took offence that permies had to stay till 4pm on a friday and, for some reason, he got flagged up as no good.

Completely nuts it was. They got rid of him then were screwed. Hes since said that the local people want him back but theres some sort of invisible barrier there now at the client.

Who knows how things work at clients????

If you are new and you are giving out immediately when asked it's highly likely that there no contracts in the first place which is why it all goes quiet. You might just have been phished.

Only give your references after the interview stage.

It may have nothing to do with the ex-manager (NLUK's advice still holds though).

Resource Solutions are part of Robert Walters, ie what you have is an agency "managing the relationship" with other agencies, both from my own experience and lots of anecdotes it is clear that RS/RW use this position to screw with contractors from other agencies.

I just find it strange not being told why, this is my first time just being terminated with 3 weeks paid notice and no reason. A part of my pride would like to find out that perhaps i was not good enough for the role or perhaps there was a budget issue etc...

The most suspicious part on my side is that I was lured to leave another contract to join the 'year long' contract at the client, and then after 3 months boom, out, no thanks, no reason.

The issue now is that i have friendships at the company and i'm quite confused how to contact these guys as i'm sure they'll probably hear the 'real reason' i was terminated before i do!

Any advice or pointers on how to approach this would help me in moving on and give me some kind of closure.

              LinkedIn? Email? Telephone?
If they were friends then surely you know some way of contacting them?

Yeh but perhaps it was just the budget ran out or got cancelled or something? Client then just couldnt be arsed to explain it all to you.

                    Hi all,

I hadn't realised this thread was so active. So, since the termination, this particular individual has been negative referencing me to a point where I've missed out on 3 potential contracts. I'm considering legal action at this point - restriction of trade and defamation of character.
