    Negotiation

I think that we should be concentrating our efforts on negotiating with HMRC and working out a plan that allows them to save face despite their lengthy periods of inaction.
I phoned them a couple of weeks ago but, not surprisingly, they are not able to negotiate individual deals.
I know that NTRT have this on their radar but I'm not sure it has the highest priority.
    Does anybody have more information?

As I've said before, I would only support that as an absolute last resort. No judge or tribunal has told me that the disputed money belongs to HMRC yet, so its non-negotiable. We have to expose them for the liars and petty bullies they are. Hopefully the Adjudicator may do that for us. I will try and fight till the absolute end and support NTRT in everything they do. However I can fully understand other people may just want closure of the whole mismanaged, sorry affair.

        Repeaters

The government & HMRC are just repeating the same old lies thinking if repeated enough times people will believe them – the same tactic as used to get us into illegal wars.

What concerns me is that many people on this forum are starting to think they made a mistake, are you starting to believe the lies?

We did Not make any mistakes, we followed the Law (whatever that means now). We used legitimate tax planning, and notified them, to save ourselves some of our hard earned money as opposed to giving it to HMRC who will frivolously spend it on 5* hotels, expenses etc.

The money they think they will get is in no way going to affect the national debt that the Banksters and the Government created in the first place.

Remember HMRC and the government are in the wrong, they made the mistakes and are covering it up in whichever way they can that will hit the public (the people they’re supposed to work for, don’t think anyone believes that) hardest – taking away our rights, finances, jobs and leaving those hardest hit in poverty. If the conservatives think they will win an election then they are only kidding themselves, they didn’t even win the last time.

I'm ashamed to be living in England.

Thanks for the slap in the face, I needed it, some others might feel the same. One day Gauke et al. will suffer for this. One day...

We haven't made any mistakes and we're in a strong negotiating position. My personal situation is that I'm retired and sick of this. There seems to be too much aggression against HMRC on this forum and I believe we could achieve a better result by getting over this.

+1 Thanks as well reminding us all of the truth

How right you are. We did follow the law at the time. As the HMRC letter last year about the tax planning admitted, 'to succeed requires a very literal interpretation of that agreement', i.e. interpreted as it was actually written down!

              Or as per the dictionary meaning of literal;
              literal ˈlɪt(ə)r(ə)l/
              adjective: literal; adjective: literal-minded

              1. taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or exaggeration.
              2. representing the exact words of the original text.

Just a reminder that this weekend is your last chance to respond to the proposed legislation on ‘Tackling marketed tax avoidance’.

As you probably know, the Government intends to introduce an accelerated payment measure which will give HMRC the power to link your tax affairs to another person's case and demand money up front, with no right of appeal.

If HMRC are granted these powers, it will allow them to demand almost immediate payment of disputed tax before you have had the chance to have your case heard at the tax tribunal (FTT).

If you do one thing this weekend, be sure to spend 10 minutes firing off an email to ask that these proposals are rejected. This is your last chance, so don't bury your heads in the sand!

You know it's a strange world when you can use legal tax planning, be open and transparent and have the full force of HMRC and the Government come down on you using retrospective laws to ruin your life and everything you have worked for and have them publicly label you as 'morally repugnant', yet you can walk away free from this, with the Government's consent.
