Proving a business flight from a holiday one lol

    Hi

Recently I went to Amsterdam for a job interview, I believe I can claim this as a business expense..however what proof can I provide (if asked) that it was business related, what criteria do the hmrc use here?

    cheers lads

Just keep emails or letters confirming the interview. If you can show you were there for one night only, I can't see a problem. If you had an interview on Tuesday and stayed until Sunday then you'll have a much more difficult time trying to convince them the whole trip was wholly and exclusively for business purposes.

HMRC are perfectly reasonable as long as they don't think you're cheating the system. On that thought, they are more likely to expect more proof if it seems you're pushing your luck in other areas (claiming £200 a month in use of home, £20 a day on food, that sort of thing)!

Collect a few business cards from folks in Holland thereby demonstrating you had business meetings.

Get a mate in Holland to write you a letter thanking you for attending the interview.

When I say "mate" I mean the company who interviewed you, obviously.

Then you can take as many holidays as you like.

When I say "holidays" I mean attend interviews overseas, obviously.
