With IRIS open books, i can have multipe clients, each with a day rate or hourly rate set. I then book my time against each client. at the end of the month i simply generate an invoice for each clients unbilled time. Simples
In this situation I would record my hours on my invoice and bill acordingly. I dont see the difficulty in that.

If you work 5 hours then invoice for 5 hours.

If you work 5 days then invoice for 5 days.

Then again I'm just an bog standard contractor, Its fine for me.

So you have to Remember the times youve worked (or record them by other means) until its time to raise the invoice, then you have to record the times on the invoice along with the day/hourly rate - lots of scope for error there.

I like to record my time as i go along, not relay on my memory/other records. Thats why Crunch is no good for me until they add a time tracking module that support multiple clients at multiple rates.

But are you not with your current method recording time on an 'as you go' basis?

In the Crunch situation you would create an invoice and amend / add to it until you are ready to issue it.

Thats a nasty work around to make up for the shorcomming of the system as you are using the Invoice system for Time tracking.

Can you then query the system to tell you how many days/hours youve worked for a client in total? or can you ask the system if you worked last tuesday?? no. all you can see is X units of work at Y/day.
i dont think Crunch even stores your dayrate for the project so you have to enter that manually for each invoice... may as well be using Excel.

Storing a day rate somewhere is irrelavent for me. It wont give me any benefit.

I'n my 12 years of contracting I've never had the need to time keep in that manor so Crunch is ideal for me.

Each to their own, but Cruch was not for me... When i spoke with them, they did mention time tracking was on their "todo" list, so maybe soon it will be... until then, its a no from me.

                I remain happy with Crunch.

When I started my current company I wanted to keep things simple and as highly automated as possible, and Crunch makes it as simple as possible. The software was good when I joined and is evolving all the time.

It sounds like you have requirements that hardly any other contractors have, and hardly any accountants fulfill. The closest you could come with Crunch would be to maintain a draft invoice for each client/billing period combination, using separate line items for each piece of work you add.

As a normal contractor with one client I only need to keep track of what days of the month I've worked, and I have to do that separately in the preferred-supplier-agency on-line timesheet system anyway. (This allows the client to automatically approve the timesheet online, and the agency to track what has been approved, so is not ever going to be replaceable by time recording in an accounting system of my choosing.)

I thought most agencies had on-line time-recording and self-billing systems anyway. None of my clients have ever asked if my firm can provide a time tracking service. It seems t me to be beyond the remit of an accountant.
