PCG - Is it worth it or not?

    Good afternoon

I started contracting couple of months ago and so far, so good. I'm considering if I should join PCG so I could get insurance in case there's some issue with IR35 (although I've been told my contract is IR35 compliant/friendly, I'm a bit paranoid...).

Has someone in here used their services/insurances? Are their contract templates/IR35 documents good?

    Basically...is it worth joining them?

    Cheers

I'm not a member but everyone I know who is is satisfied with the value for money they get for their membership.

I get all my needs from the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) but then I'm not a typical contractor!

Go careful with IR35 compliant or 'friendly' contracts as that isn't going to be any good if it's not representative of what happens in practice (and a lot of agencies don't understand IR35 enough to realise the contracts aren't actually that good anyway). A contract can be fabulous, but if it's not realistic then it's not worth the paper it's printed on. Get a proper review done, one that considers your working practices and the assignment as a whole.

The PCG IR35 contracts are excellent, and set a very good bench mark for the type of ideal clauses you'd want to see in an agency contract.

Don't make the mistake of assuming that PCG membership is all about insurance - you get a lot more than that. The biggest part for me is the epresentation at government level. I'm pleased to have real contractors who work like me talking to ministers about our problems.

Plus theres the contracts, discounts, training services, jury service cover, etc etc etc

They don't, but you do get discounts from all your favourite reviewers.

Any of the usual suspects can review your contracts well for IR35 - do a search.

However what they won't do is review the other legal terms in your contract. So while you may have an IR35 compliant contract with working practises to match, you could have some seriously screwed up legal clauses in it.

Oh and PCG contracts are good.

Thanks a lot everyone. I will be joining PCG and most probably get the PI insurance which comes with ir35 reviews included from one of the companies...

                  Thanks!

A lot of accountants will do the review for you.
