    Trademark Registration

I'd like to protect the name of my limited company by registering it as a trademark. Say it's "Finbarr Ltd" (it isn't), should I register "Finbarr Ltd" or "Finbarr". Neither form is already registered. Thanks.

What are you worried about protecting the name from? Is this in reaction to anything in particular?

A limited company name is protected in that no one can use the same name at Companies House, or one that is deemed too similar, or one that can be seem as trying to take advantage of your name/goodwill.

If someone registers one that you think can be confused with your own you can register a complaint at Companies House (I believe it comes under the tort of 'passing off'). I have known companies who have had to change their company name when another company made just such a complaint.
