    Changing the Accountant

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum.
I have been contracting for last 8 months. I have been using a limited company for my invoice and other stuff. I am not very happy with the accountant. He never explains anything, hardly respond to my queries (unless I go after him). I asked him to open my company but no response yet....

I want to change my accountant and also want to open my company.

1: What all will I be needing from present accountant in order to migrate to a new accountant?
2: Can anybody please suggest a good accountant?

    Thanks,
    -Freemind

If your current accountant is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants they should cooperate professionally with the new accountant to transfer all records across. If they don't do this you can complain to the Institute. Unfortunately my last accountant wasn't a member and they took about 3 months transfer the records. I just had to keep nagging him to get the transfer done.

I am glad I moved though. I am now with Intouch Accounting and Craig has been extremely helpful and responds very quickly to my questions.

There are lots of good accountants out there - so take some time to look before you leap!

When you switch accountants, the accountant you switch too should liaise with your old accountant to obtain all the info they need.

There are lots of good guides to seeking out a good contractor accountant on this site and here, as well as some checklists of the types of questions to ask and what to be wary of.
