Belgium contract

HI all,

I have been offered a job in Brussels, Belgium, as a freelancer. I have never been a freelancer before.
I have a French nationality and I currently live in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Folks at the new company, advised me to ask for an umbrella company to get things straight legally. They told me about Alpha-resourcing Alpha Resourcing management services contractors agencies but i already sent them a request for info and they ain't getting back to me.

Do you think in my situation going for an umbrella company is the right choice? Why is that that I have been advised to choose an umbrella company that seems to operate in the UK? Any reasons or should I also consider Belgium ones?

Whether to use an umbrella company is your choice, but quite a few people on these forums have lost out big time through intermediaries going down the tube. I worked at the desk besides another contractor in Belgium who was working through Albany and lost a couple of months wages when they went tulipe. So personally, I would not us an umbrella.

The Netherlands are in the EU and so if you remain resident there then you should be able to operate in Belgium under the 183 day rule, but i don't know whether the tax situation in The Netherlands makes that worthwhile.

There's a very long thread in these forums started by Nodric about working in Belgium, if you search the titles for "Belgium" and poster "Nodric" you will find loads of good advice.
