That seems odd to me, as you're claiming by the mile, so the fuel receipt is irrelevant, I would have thought. I never provide fuel receipts when I claim mileage and I've never been asked to.

it is to stop fraud. The reciepts have to tot up to something like what you are claiming. There are some numbers around that quantify how much you should have in reciepts to warrent the mileage but can't remember what it is.

If you put in 30K miles but can only back it up with receipts that would at best get 10k miles they have caught you out.

You are expected to keep a lot of things that you haven't been asked to produce.... YET!!!

UPDATE : I have a feeling something changed around Nov 1st 2008 around this that required receipts to match up to mileage claimed but can't find the exact documation. Too much to read through.

Well maybe my question wasnt as dumb as I thought or as straight forward to answer, or find the answer out. Its a bit like buying a car really and deciding how to barter the dealer down or if you need to have it checked by the AA? (sorry that is a different thread though and I dont want to get off the topic here)

LOL very clever. Bartering changes depending on economy, where you get it from and the size of your Kahuna's so was asking advice on a non-tangible aspect of car buying. People have different methods and there are different aspects to influencing the outcome. Some people are better than others so opinion matters...

HMRC rules are cast in stone and well documented black and white.

              Big difference my lazy friend.

And equally there is a big difference between people charging 10p per mile and 40p per mile and keeping receipts to hand in to the accountant or just charging for the mileage as the answers have proved. So who is the one trying to be clever all the time Mr Smart 4rse!?

Buying a car is very simple. Pay them what you think it is worth after doing research on Auto Trader etc and try to knock a bit more off. Oh, and its always advisable getting it checked over as I wouldnt want you to spend all your money on a dud.....

                  Never heard of this before.

I would have thought it is quite simple to demonstrate that the mileage is genuine: your office is at W2 1AA, your client is based at RG6 1WA. 40 miles x 2 x number of days you travelled there

Hee hee, you are getting the hang of this. BTW there isn't really a difference betwee the 10 and 40p thing. One is wrong one is right. Who cares what they do. You do what fits your situation.

I could further this discussion by mentioned the fact in 14 posts (mostly in this thread) you have posted 3 lazy questions. You are picking on my one. Great proportional representation and all that.. But that is boring so moving on....

Yes, Google could have answered the question, but if you have two people around you telling contradictory points of view on something that should be straightforward, then I can understand why you would ask a forum which would know the answer straight away. It's not a routine "how much can I claim?" but something more specific than that.

                      Take the into General.
If you have to add a , it isn't funny. HTH. LOL.
