Tax laws when working in Switzerland

    Hi

I've searched the forums but couldn't find a straight answer to this, so hope people don't mind me asking.

I am a UK Citizen (i.e. born here, British passport etc) working in the UK at the moment as a permie.

I'm thinking of accepting a contract in Switzerland to bolster the old finances.

The agency are saying that they will provide an umbrella company and that my wages get placed in my bank account with the relevant Swiss tax deductions.

Does anyone know how this works in relation to UK taxes however? I assume I still have to pay them at some point - but in that case, I'm paying taxes twice?

Or does the fact that I'm paying taxes to another EU country negate that?

Goes without saying, I want to keep everything above board and pay my dues, but don't want to be stung for more than I should be paying.

    Can anyone advise?

    Thanks in advance.

In general - Any tax you pay in Switzerland would be offset against the UK tax under a double taxation treaty. If the Swiss tax is lower you'll pay a balancing amount here, so you're basically paying the higher rate of either country.

This does assume it's a small contract and that you remain UK resident and domiciled. If you're not, it could differ.

Usual advice really - talk to an accountant who can get a full picture of your circumstances and advise accordingly.

If you dont need the total cash at present you can take advantage of contributions to a 3rd pension fund plus make sure that you keep all receips
to reduce the UK taxable amount
