"improving fairness" to whom. For goodness sake where do these idiots come from. It isn't fair to the poor bastards that have been doing as they were told then given a big tax bill because HMRC stuffed up. Somebody should ask HMRC for a definition of Fair.

The dictionary definition is "in accordance with the rules or standards; legitimate" so how the hell can they call what they have done fair?

The definition of 'Fair' when used by Government is not that quoted in any dictionary but that used in Socialism: ".... a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery

          Refund

For some reason unknown to me I am now owed close to 10K of overpayed tax.

When I was owed 2.5K they refused to give it back.
          Now that's it's 10K I care a bit more.

I remember from a previous post that someone managed to get money back.
Can you remind me how that was done again pls

            Hey ST,

I had a refund and after lot of effort and phonecalls I managed to eventually get the money. I tried several times getting payment through the gateway and twice over the phone. Eventually the agent who was trying to chase down my money passed me over to complaints and I had a guy call me who fairly quickly (relatively speaking, about 2 weeks) sorted it all out.

The reason is because of the investigations that they had blocked any payments to me. The complaints officer conceded that because this was after the years being investigated (and after I had come off the scheme) I should get the money.

Is there no end to the bad press for HMRC

              Another negative headline...

Now taxman sends in the heavy mob over unpaid taxes | Mail Online

              and from the article...

Those who believed their tax bills were correct and who can prove HMRC knew of all their tax affairs yet failed to act on the information for a year should have their debts written off.

I thought our tax affairs were completely in order and HMRC didn't query our return for 3 years.

I think I would rather deal with a private firm, most of them have procedures and guidelines to follow, unlike HMRC who seem to cock everything up and dont adhere to a process...

Did anyone see the article in the Standard last night about big Dave's expenses??
