Folks, if you want an idea of your exposure, this is the Excel spreadsheet MP sent me.

Im certain they wont mind me sharing this with you and obviously, I've taken my figures out of it!

You'll need to know how much your exposure is for each year. It will calculate the interest as well.

Please be aware this is only to give an indication of how much you may owe. Dont take it as gospel.

    HTH.

Thanks Bolshie, it matches pretty closely with the figures I already had.

thanks a lot bolshie, that has actually cheered me up a bit....most of my liability is in the most recent years so my liability is less than I thought it would be with interest!!! thats just saved me about £30k yippeeeee!!!! grateful for small mercies at the moment!

So everyone, even tho just multiplying by ay .4 gives you an idea a lot depends on the spread of your earnings over the years and the rates differ wildly so its not a straightforward calc, use the XLS its brill!!!

                logic?

I dont get the arrogance of Timms and his Goons. High earners have a choice of where they live and how they live, dont they get it? They arent necessarily stuck in a middle management job struggling to support a family on PAYE.

So they expect high earning receipts to drop from £90bn to £75bn according to the report following the FOI, that will be a direct impact of tax measures they are implementing to try and raise more revenue, 50p rate, businesses relocating due to the tax climate in the UK, Diageo, SAB Miller, Nestle etc.

                from the BBC report:

However HMRC has previously revealed that it expects the total number of higher-rate taxpayers to shrink from 3.89 million in 2007-08 to 2.9 million in 2009-10.
The amount of income tax they pay is also predicted to shrink by £15.9bn during that time, from £91bn to £75.1bn.
"HMRC is looking at substantially fewer rich taxpayers, so the amounts it raises from this special unit may be less in the future," Mr Berwick said.

So why are they doing it, they are losing money by being overly aggressive?? I just dont get it, their policies are reducing tax receipts just when they need more, and thats from HMRC directly...is this just becoming an ego power trip by Lurch?
