    HMRC Employment Record Form

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice...

HMRC have written to me asking me to fill in an employment record form. One of the sections asks for the address where I work if it is different from my Employer's.

As my employer is an umbrella company (Parasol), I can currently claim tax relief on my mileage as I can say that my usual place of work is different to that of my employer. I am concerned that if I fill this section in then HMRC will assert that since my stated 'usual' place of work is different to my employer's then I cannot claim the mileage.

Should I just leave this blank?

    Kind regards,
    Matthew.

The form will have a number on it, if we knew what the number was we might be able to give you a better answer.

To my mind it sounds like the form that HMRC started sending out to permie higher-rate tax payers because fiscal creep had quadrupled the number of higher-rate tax payers and HMRC were crippled by the number of self-assessment forms that they had to process as a result.

If that is the case then there is no harm in ignoring it but it would save you the need to fill out a SA return every year if you sent it back.
