    BN66 - FOI Request

The Treasury have rejected the following FOI request on the grounds that they claim it is not in the public interest to release the documents. I have requested an internal review, which is just a charade for them to stall for time. Ultimately I intend to appeal this all the way up to the Information Commissioner.

However, it might help counter the public interest defence if more members of the public (ie. us) request the same information.

Section 58 FA2008 incompatible with Human Rights

Will the Treasury release all documents they have on file about this legislation which Parliament's own Human Rights committee has cited as incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.
If you are up for this then edit the above as you see fit, and submit it using the form at the bottom of this page:

    Thanks!

Um, can someone summarise what this is all about ?

I did go to the links provided, but all I could find was information on people asking for things, and not the things themselves, if that makes any sense ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

We were trying to get the Government to release the background material on the retrospective legislation section 58 of the Finance Act 2008.

Unfortunately, they have refused to play ball, and have instead used "get out" clauses in the Freedom of Information Act to keep all of the papers secret.

Not that they've got anything to hide you understand.

A complaint has been filed with the Information Commissioners Office which adjudicates on matters of non-compliance.
