You couldn't make this up! Brown wants to push through retrospective tax legislation even though we "filled in our forms correctly" yet he's blindly (scuse the pun) bleating on about retrospection as being unfair. Could someone quote him on this and see (scuse the pun again) what he thinks about that?
I read this this morning and I admit to having trouble spotting
    who was a Labour MP!

It ends with this from Sir Stuart Bell (Lab), the joint chair of the committee
in charge of it all, who seems to think the audit is going too far:

"If there is a suggestion that Sir Thomas is not abiding by the rules and standards at the time, I think the public would accept that some breach of fairness there is not actually proper for our members of parliament."

It seems he is a barrister as well, and isn't a fan of retrospection, at least
    where MPs are concerned.

No legal representative is going to be happy with retrospection, makes their job very difficult indeed!!!! shifting sands beneath them and probably throws all sorts of legal cases up in the air that relied on a fixed known state from a certain point in time, not one that could be opened back up from the past...

Lets face it, everyone including the government hates retrospection, thats why they are trying to use the word clarify as much as possible...Even tho a lot of MP's correspondence keeps using the R word...

I have just watched the BBC news and it seems are elected representatives are unhappy about having to pay back expenses having had the rules changed retrospectively. they have my utmost sympathy. hopefully they will now understand a little more about what they have put us through and give up their futile fight without wasting a truck load of taxpayers money on lawyers defending their un-defendable position.

I think the reason Brown wants to push through retrospective expenses is so the word "retrospective" becomes acceptable to the general public.

Once the public are happy with how retrospection is being used to claim back the money from those dastardly MPs!, he can then start thinking about further retrospective taxes

Interesting that John Snow on Channel 4 news queried whether retrospective expense clawback was against human rights legislation!

              JCHR meeting this afternoon

I have been told Timms' non-response is on the agenda.

Let's hope they don't pull any punches.

2pm I believe, but I don't think it's held in public if that's why you were asking.

There are many references to this site way back in the thread and its predecesors, this is a scam by Alan Jones, the guy who originally split from Montpelier and grassed up Montpeliers clients to hmrc, in return for a favourable deal for his new clients.

                    dont' even think about it
