Charity Donation - VAT?

I have an arrangement with a local charity (age concern) where by I don't donate money to them as that all goes to the national head office.

Instead if they need a specific item I buy it for them and donate it.

Not done this since I had a Ltd. Can you reclaim vat on these items (non frs)? I suspect no but I'm prepared to be suprised

Yes, No or maybe depending on how you donate it and what the charity do with it.
