So what do I actually owe?!

Is it me or has the SA online form changed to be more awkward? I like the reduced number of boxes but the final payment owed part confuses me.

I know I have paid a large amount on account (this is my 4th return) but the tax "I owe" does not take that into account (like it used to). Fine, I can cope with that, but does that mean I have to get a calculator out, work out the difference and then pay HRMC that? Where's the simple subtraction page that tells me what I actually owe? Seems a rather convoluted way of doing things...

I had exactly the same experience, surely it isn;t too much to ask that they subtract the amounts paid on account from the "total due"

Hav enow logged on the morning after and it has a new breakdown of what I owe (good news). However, it says I owe the whole lot by January 31st but the breakdown lists the second payment on account due in July. This new site is plain weird...

The second payment in july 2009 is the advance payment for 2008/2009 (half of the total due for 2007-2008).

January 2009 payment is the first advance payment for 2008/2009 + whatever is due from 2007/2008 after advance payments made (in jan 2008 and jul 2008) have been deducted.

        Hope this makes sense!

I completely understand the advance payment system, it's just the sites insistance on two different dates for when it's due

Never mind, have paid what I think is right and they can tell me otherwise
