self assessment - Service Co question ?

Just doing my tax return and the question 'Income elsewhere on this return derived from the provision of your services through a service company. Enter total amount:'

I assume I add my salary and dividends and put the figure in there ?

Owt I should know before shopping myself ?

They have also added lots of other new questions, what was previously an nice easy exercise now has the smelly fingers of NuLiebour all over it.

FYI, my accountant (SJD) did choose to answer it for me..

From what I can see opinion is split, sorry; I know this doesn't help you!

I love the way SJD don't even bother to mention it, discuss it, or even send out a circular email, before answering it for you.

By not filling it in you are accidently making a mistake on your return. What is the penalty for this mistake ? You are not liable for any more tax unless they take out an IR35 against you.

Did we get an answer on this one in the end?

Im asking because my accountant has told me to fill it in (even though i was originally going to leave it blank). Hes not an IT contractor type accoutant and doesnt really have specialised IR35 knowledge.

Im worried Im opening myself up to an IR35 botty rocket.

                Help

I've left mine blank and put the dividends from my company into the "UK Dividends" section. As far as I know I'm not a "Service Company", and I recall one bit of the SA help section said "You'll know if you are" (!?)

That's not to say it's correct, but if the other folks on here can provide a census. I may be different as my contract is very IR35 friendly with gems such as "I am not under the control of anyone" and "I can work for anyone else when I want"

I found this link which provides a bit of background information, but not a definitive answer.
