    So, how does this sound?
I am the sole director and only employee of the company. My wife is the unsalaried company secretary.

I hold a party at my house (which is also my "principal place of work" and the company registered address) and I go to threshers and buy a couple of bottles of vintage champers (using the 40% discount that threshers are currently promoting) plus a load of nibbles from sainsburys.

I invite all the employees (me) and I accept.
The employee (me) invites a guest (his wife) and we stick on a CD and get sloshed in the front room.
The total bill comes to £299.
I submit an expense, and save the threshers/sainsburys receipts.

    Does this sound reasonable?

      Hotel Room?

      Slightly different question.

We - the wife and I - used to go to a Hotel for their Xmas Party (meal / Disco / Bar) up until a couple of years ago. I was a Permie then.

Anyway, we are going again this year and because the Hotel is a fair distance from home and dont really want to worry about getting a taxi when it finishes, we are stopping in the Hotel.

So my question is this - could our £150 each (wife is an employee of my Ltd Co) be used to cover travelling (mileage) to Party? The Hotel Room? Tickets for the Party?

Is it a travelodge equidistant between London and Norwich?

Seems OK to me, if you ever get audited they might think 300 quid in booze is a tad expensive for a 2 person party.
However if you can show it was spent on a handfull of good quality champers, rather than 600 cans of carling I don't think there would be a problem.

Referring to my very first thread ("I get all of my expenses paid back...") I know that the contractor guy I was making reference to in that thread is also throwing a party for much of his family (um... company shareholders) and was gloating to me about how "the company is paying for our Christmas party". Further attempts to explain that he will always still be out of pocket by 79% what he spends on the party seemed to fall on deaf ears, as usual.

What evidence do you need of the Chritmas bash actually happening, apart from restaurant reciepts?

Do you need to print an invite out and send it to yourself???

Does a unpaid company secretary count as a employee ? Seems madness to me that a company secretary wouldn't count but thought I would check...

                  Cheers

And why would you want to give 2 guests a freebie at your co's expense? Unless they are your kids I dont see the point. Neither do I see the point taking your client's HR \ Recruitment Manager or other pair of nob jockeys!

I guess this is where umbrella employees lose out again (compared to Ltd Co)?
