    Back date 15% rate

Reading the VAT change guidance from HMRC, (yeah bored this morning). Can this....

3.3.2 Single supplies carried out over a period of time
If you are making a single supply of a service which is nevertheless carried out over a period of time which spans the change in rate (e.g. the service provided by a solicitor in preparing a will) the whole supply can be charged at the new 15% rate. Any VAT already accounted for at 17.5% (e.g. on payments on account made before 1 December 2008) may be adjusted using the special change of rate rules described in paragraph 3.1.

...be abused in any way to retrospectively pay VAT MAN only 10.5% (in my first year on the Flat Rate Scheme) when I've been charging the client 17.5%? Or do I have to apply a credit to the client?

Just wanted to ask quickly before I ask the accountant as don't want to seem too cretinous.

    Ignore, I'm a tool.

If I'd quoted an inclusive price without specifying VAT Rate I could have kept the difference and kept on charging the higher rate but because I split it on the invoice I've got to give it to HMRC. Boo.
