My clientco wants to renew my contract for a further 3 mths which will take me over 2 years at this site. If I arrange to continue with the contract but work on-site 1 day a week only, the rest spent working from home can I use the 40% ruling to continue claiming travel expenses to and from that site or do HMRC base it on 40% of the entire engagement, incl. the previous 24 months.

It's based on the average over the whole time of working at that site, so it'll be a LONG time of doing 1 day a week before your average is less than 40%. As soon as you accept the contract and know you will be going over 2 years, you must stop claiming site based allowances NOW, not at the 2 year mark.Originally posted by neilmcl View PostMy clientco wants to renew my contract for a further 3 mths which will take me over 2 years at this site. Another quick question; I understand that I wont be able to claim tax relief on the travel expenses in that case but can I still put the expenses through my Ltd?Comment

You can, but you won't be able to claim tax relief on them, so all you're doing is giving yourself more paperwork (unless you're trying to get your profits under a threshhold or something)Originally posted by neilmcl View PostAnother quick question; I understand that I wont be able to claim tax relief on the travel expenses in that case but can I still put the expenses through my Ltd?Cooking doesn't get tougher than this.Comment

HELP - 2 year rule question
I have just ended a contract at a client site after 23 months and 3 weeks. I have been offered a new contract for the same client but a different role it will involve me moving around constantly around the clients 100 sites with in the borough which stretches far and wide.
For 23 months and 2 weeks I have claimed expenses, my job did involve moving about to different locations.
How will my new contract affect my expenses and where do I stand. Would it also apply if I had my own limited company?
Does the contract have to read a different site name - at least 3-6miles away from the current sitedespite not being on the original client site for more then an hour a day?
I have also been forced to use a new agency and can only use 5 selected umbrella companies...
Hows this going to work for me?Comment
