Alas the entertainment value on here has gone down of late. The government cant be trusted to spend our money, thats why we prefer to spend it ourselves

I'd love to pay for MPs expenses and £2000 a day NHS business consultants, but I need to save up for a Ferrari.

Oh, and if you dont believe the bit about £2000 a day NHS consultants, my wife works for the NHS trust where she is watching the govt. flush your hard-earned money down the toilet. They recently appointed a new boss on a salary of £350,000 a year and that's just one of the jobs he does in the public sector. Meanwhile, they keep on hiring more and more consultants. Did I tell you about the hundreds of plasma televisions they bought?

This isn't just in the NHS either, its endemic right through the whole public sector and govt. departments, including, no doubt, the Inland Revenue.

Gooner, why do you feel you have to chip in now and then and rile things up.
The amusement value has fallen I guess primarily because the mood is now more resigned, and people are beginning to plan for the worst. I understand your point of view, but do we really deserve that degree of antagonism. In many cases this is something that happened years ago, but the sums involved are so staggering that it will be financial ruin for many, myself included. And for getting involved in something that was, at the time, entirely legal. Of that there can be no doubt, what other conclusion can be drawn from HMRC's refusal, for many years, to take it to the courts. Can you not also understand our point of view, and the resulting feeling of victimisation. And also you pass judgement on all of us without any knowledge of any of our circumstances, For instance, it was five years ago I was in this scheme, and I have since operated normally through an approved umbrella and also through my own Ltd, and have always with the exception of the 2 years I was in Montpelier, paid my share. I dont contribute 'nothing', only during that period, which was to some degree a rebellion, dont forget, was I tempted into this kind of thing. I hope you can appreciate my attempt at rational argument, without resorting to insult, can you do us the same courtesy.

A lot of people were sucked into the same trap.
I think the reason HMRC wouldn't take it to the courts for so long, was that they were waiting for new and/or amended legislation to come into force that would make their case stronger.
Now HMRC are gunning for the few that were sucked in, people/companies that were put on the back burner until Hector was ready to turn up the heat.

read the publication by the treasury on OFC's.....It makes fascinating reading, particularly the bit where they say people who use these "avoidance tactics":

"ARE EITHER INVOLVED IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY OR VERY WEALTHY INDIVIDUALS!"

thats their justification for these tactics, they are going to get a real shock when they attempt to bankrupt 2000 people who are nothing of the sort. Think a lot of people will take a very very dim view of such a policy....

what about insolvency/iva, personally I'd class these as an option, given my assets wont cover my debts, even before any additional liability for BN66

I thought of that during the divorce - in fact I joined the British Euthanasia society, got the name of the drug and bought some (I needed 3 trips and made 1). Then I met Matt O'Connor - who gave me a focus for my issues. And my current gf. And life just gets better and better.

Thing is - here I see bankrupcy as a far better option than suicide. And if things get that bad - I will give you plenty of ideas that will convince you of far better ways forward!

Anyway - plenty of water to go under the bridge - it might never happen- etcetc.
