    Accountant Required

I'm in the process of setting up my own Limited Company.

Can anybody recommend a good (cheap but good ) accountant?

Prefer not to pluck one out of yellow pages.

    I'm in the Leicestershire area

    Thanks
    Rob

The fees amongst IT accountants vary from £50 to £85 + vat per month depending on where you go.....we're at the lower end of that scale.

          there appears

to be no reason why some of them charge 85+ per month. they do very little for you (ie every 3 months tell you what you need to put on your vat return)

            hmm...ok will ponder on that.

            £50pm sounds doable.

Be very interested to know what i get for that money?

The type of things you should expect your accountant to do are annual company accounts (both IR & Companies House), corporation tax returns & calcs, personal self assessment (if required), payroll, dividend/tax planning, vat assistance, personal tax planning and be generally on hand should you require any other assistance.

There maybe variations of the above from firm to firm.

I think i actually need to sit down and talk to somebody about what my plans are and what i need to do next.

You are a time waster m8 - this simply isn't necessary.

Interestingly this thread does raise a good point though.

How can a certain accountant, very well known on this website, justify charging £80 a month for a service that my accountant performs to the same standard for £50 ?

I suppose a lot depends on the cost base of the firm. Our overheads are quite low and with being based in Wakefield it helps in keeping costs down.

Charges will vary from firm to firm, best to shop around and find one you are comfy with not just from a cost point of view but also the service you require.
