Today I get my letter from montp. It says :-

montp today contacted hmrc with a view to settle this matter by paper-scissor-rock. Mr Brannigan (hello ) is a big screaming jessie who said no.

come on Mr B - you know it makes sense!

I would think - happy or not with the letter - there is NO UPSIDE to giving in now.

From a purely logical stand :-

If you give in - you will have to pay the cash. All of it - and never see it again. So all money gone NOW.

BUT ......if you use that same cash and buy a CTD - you pay a bit less cash over now (as you dont need to get a CTD for the interest element) so you are in a better position than if you throw in the towel as you can at least be earning interst on some of it. So in effect you emdebted if lessening.

And the upside of the CTD route is .... when MontP win all those pennies are at your beck and call without waiting for Mr B to give it back to you.

SO why, having come this far, would any one even consider for a momnet paying up before the final battle even commences ?

Would penalties arise if you say bought the CTD and awaited the results of the forthcoming battle? Right now you are liable for the alledged amount of tax and interest only.

Due to the length of time HMRC have dithered and their bully boy tactics. I would not blame anyone for CONSIDERING settling.

I hope everyone on thread will stand firm! Lets all fight together! If anyone feels low then feel free to PM myself or DonkeyRhubarb or both.

Agree 100%. If like me, you were in the scheme several years ago, then the interest can be as much as 40% on top the tax liability. There is no point paying 140 now, when you can get a CTD for 100 and invest the 40 and keep the interest on this for yourself.

Mr Brannigan wants you to pay on account. He never mentions CTDs, even though they are promoted on his website. Ask yourself why? It wouldn't have anything to do with bonuses paid to special compliance officers perhaps?

If you've got the cash and want to protect yourself from further interest then get a CTD. Like elpinar, I can't see any advantage (other than for Mr B) of settling now.

Have to say I've STILL not received a letter from MP! Fortunately I have been emailed a copy but this to me is very worrying. Just what are MP playing at?

Tell you what, its very difficult to fight together if your own 'side' is doing such a poor job of communication.

I cant begin to tell you how exasperated Im becoming.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

How many letters have they sent out? several thousand? Can montp be held responsible for Royal Mail?

I am sure Mr Brannigan (heelo ) will be very interested to read your post...

I dont know how many letters they've sent out. At the presentation I went to I was told the scheme would be limited to 300 contractors to make it 'managable.'

I really dont see what difference it makes to HMRC whether people are brassed off with poor communication!
