    Ir35

So, how many peple here have been (or know someone) who has been investigated by the IR? I reckon its like TV detector vans......ie they don't really exist. and the guys you hear about in the court cases are just actors hired by IR.

I know someone who had an investigation. He had been a contracotr for over a decade and had been drawing minimum wage. I suspect this is the profile they go for first. He got away with it thanks to his slippery accountant.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

      They DO exist!!!

Have an ongoing investigation being dealt with under Route35 policy.

My advice, get some insurance in place and/or switch to umbrella. Even with the insurance cover it is a real pain answering IR questions and describing your contracts and business practices.

            I Have...

I have been investigated by the IR!

I was called into their office in the usual formal manner and told to bring all my account info with me. My initial thought was that their was big trouble ahead! But then I thought to myself, "What the hell have I got to worry about I ain't done anything wrong!"

Anyway, I arrived at the office with loads of documents and account info and was invited into the office and put all my documents on the desk and said to them, "Right. Which year do you actually want to investigate?"

The IR persons reply was, "I can see you are very organised!"

I replied, "I am. You are welcome to check any years accounts you like but you will find them all in good order!"

They replied, "I don't think we need to! Our investigation is now closed!" Straight up!!

I was out of there in 5 minutes flat and was pretty relieved.
But the fact is if you try to pull a fast one over the IR they will come down like a ton of bricks on you! Rightly so too!
But if you are genuine, pay any tax you owe and keep damn good records then you should not have too many problems! Touch Wood!! :-)
