The Truth about Tax Avoidance Schemes

Well to start with some meat to your argument would be useful. All you have provided is vague hints and sweeping generalisations so far....Originally posted by Old_Timer View PostHow very rude!
I refer my learned friend to the following Twaddle on taxationweb: I quote
"An adviser who has devised an avoidance scheme is under an obligation to provide details of the scheme to the Revenue within five days of the scheme first being ‘made available for implementation’. There is a penalty of up to £5,000 for failure to make the necessary disclosure. The notification process is not an approval process: the Revenue will register the scheme regardless of whether or not it believes that it is effective"

I'm surprised you didn't take the opportunity to mention Montpelier - you usually do....are you on a retainer?
And, incidently, they are one of the schemes I've investigated....
Twaddle indeed...Comment

There are some who are being investigated and some who are not.Originally posted by swamp View PostI know someone who is being investigated by Hector about their offshore scheme.
Not good.
I'd only recommend these schemes to Saffas, Kiwis and West Islanders who can leave the country after a couple of years.
It all depends on your attitude to risk/reward and your personal circumstances.Comment

I doubt you have heard Montpelier say this.....Originally posted by Old_Timer View PostSo
I've investigated several and they all ensure that I know they have a Scheme Reference Number (SRN) like it's a badge of honour somehow. They also seem to intimate that having the SRN means that the Scheme is 'approved' by HMRC! - I've heard them say this

The thing is that you are only going of what you have read on the web. Montpelier do not put their position on the web - you have to attend a presentation to find out.Originally posted by Old_Timer View PostHow very rude!

I have fought a few court cases - you never give your opponent warning of your strategy and your position.
By all means rely on your web searches/office comment if you want.
Search on the sanzar thread for the posts by friendly accountant will give you some idea.
I am nothing to do with montpelier - I am actually scarred in case they trace me back and boot me off the scheme or worse. But I doubt if you will believe me.Comment
