I (my company) wants to buy a new TV, I mean LCD

    Hello all.

I'd really like a brand new TV, you know, HD flat panel 40" kinda thing. But I want my company to buy it!

I heard through a colleague that he knew someone who bought one that was invoiced as a LCD omitting the word 'TV' - Bonus hey?!

Anyone either just taken the plunge and allowed their Ltd.Co to buy it, or know any golden websites that might just list one as an LCD only without that darn TV word in it?

    Cheers,

I can't see how your company can possibly have any use for a 40" LCD monitor anyway.

Why not just put a trip to the brothel through the company as well - it will be just as legitimate if HMRC ever check through your books.

They are useful for when you have to give presentations

I'm sure a web designer or a programmer would love a 40" screen! What's the difference from having 3 x 19" LCD's on my desk?

I know I'd love it to be able to view multiple windows on the same screen.

        But thanks for your input

You can buy anything you want through your company, the problem is you then have to justify it as a company expense to the tax man.

Do you think the tax man is going to belive your company uses your 40" LCD screen when he comes round to your house and can see it stuck on the sitting room wall and wired up to your PVR/Amp/DVD/PS3/etc. Or do you think he is going to tell you it is for personal use, tax it as a BIK, fine you and then do you for tax evasion?

Is it worth risking going to jail (yes they could end up putting you in jail)?

Why are so many people asking stupid expense questions atm? New batch of people starting to go contracting who seem to think it means free money to spend on champagne, hookers and fast cars???

            No, I don't think I would.

Hopeless resolution for the size of screen.

If you really want to commit a bit of fraud, at least make it believable fraud - 26" is about the largest monitor size.

A mate of mine has a 30" Apple Cinema display running at 2560x1600 - but it does sit on his desk and not in the living room..

I've actually been contracting for 5 years, so I guess that immediately puts me in the category of "should know better".

I think I've asked a perfectly valid question, as I know a few people who have done exactly this, bought themselves a TV with Company funds, but I thought to myself - I'll gague what this lot think about it on here, and see if anyone I don't know has done it.

After reading some of the replies to not only this post, but to some other posts on here, I now know why I barely post on here and rarely visit - because some of you come across as most rude, obnoxious, elitist individuals.

Surely we all have a common goal - to maximise expenses and take home pay. It wouldn't help to be nice to each other, newbies or old timers.

And before I am slated for being a happy-clapping hippy wanting to spread peace and love, you couldn't be further from the truth. But what I do believe in is information sharing, and being polite and explaining why if people get things wrong.
