Just a reminder - for newbies like me - you don't have to pay any corporation tax on cash gifts from your limited to charity however you cannot tick the gift aid box for the charity to claim back income tax paid (because if it's directly from your limited you won't have paid any income tax on it).
Here's what the Disasters Emergency Committee website says ...
"For companies:
To give through Gift Aid, a company simply gives the money to charity. The company does not deduct any tax from the donation and does not need to make a Gift Aid declaration to the charity. Tax relief is given by deducting the amount of the donation from profits prior to calculating corporation tax. For further details about the effect of a donation on corporation tax liability, contact your company’s tax office.
Unlike Gift Aid donations from individuals, when a business gives through Gift Aid, the charity is not entitled to reclaim any tax against the value of that donation."
I still think this is a more 'efficient' way of giving though as there's no NI payment involved. Probably best to ask for a receipt though.
Now you have those company cheque books out, why not put something in the post for the Bangladesh Cyclone Appeal, here's the address ...
