Any alarm bells for dealing with Hays?

The rate tends to keep going down between the interview and getting the contract paperwork. "Budget issues at the client end" is the standard line.

Sorry, should say the contract isn't in the UK, so IR35 doesn't apply. I'm looking more at the service angle.

And I'm the only freelancer in this particular division, so can't take others under my wing.

I've hired contractors from, and worked via, K2 on a few occassions. They pay on time and be flexible in terms of paperwork etc, but they are a wee bit cheeky when it comes to margins - bit of fibbing involved on that score (maybe not applicable in your case.)

I am not surprised. I would be expecting something to happen if I read that in my contract. Setting themselves up really.
