Forgetting to write VAT Number Pending on invoices

Hi I've been running a ltd company for several weeks now and am still in the process of obtainig a VAT number.

I have submitted several invoices to the client but have forgotten to supply the words "VAT number pending"

I have also not charged for VAT on my invoices either.

I plan to submit a separate VAT invoice once my VAT number comes through.
Is my client legally allowed to challenge that VAT invoice for forgetting the above clause?

    Regards
    M

Have you got your VAT registration "back-dated" or not ?

Hi BlueBird, im not too sure what you mean by the above, My acconutant applied for my VAT number and Flat Rate vat scheme at same time as creating the ltd company.
The above all happened before I started the contract

      Does that answer your question?

Dont worry! Get in contact with your agency and advise them that you will be back dating the VAT. VAT is just a money go round.

I have just got my VAT number and I cant believe how much the government is missing out on this VAT delay fiasco. I registered back in July, I just got registered and dont have to submit the VAT till the end of February. I can sit on the (large) VAT and make interest on it and its almost 7 months since registering before they get any money. Thought the government were supposed to be clever?

It is very slow currently, but they have to do a lot of checks to make sure that you're not committing VAT fraud. What they should have done was increased the headcount as they should have expected a sharp increase after the legislation that made MSC illegal.

When they issued your VAT certificate, there will be a start date on it. You are not allowed to collect vat for service rendered / goods sold before this start date.

Correct - you can only back-date VAT recovery if you have a VAT certificate that covers the period of the invoice.

It took me 3 months to get my VAT cert, so be warned, you could be waiting for quite a few more weeks
