new car (Can I claim it)

    Buying a new car tomorrow.
It is to be used just for work travel as I have another car for personal use.
It is basically my work van can I claim the total cost as a loss on my accounts.
    Cheers Folks

Which is it - a car or a van?
    Where is it kept overnight?
Will it ever be used for personal use?

IF you do purchase it as a company vehicle, cars are not treated in the same way as most capital assets...and it most cases you will be better off financially if you purchase the vehicle personally and claim the mileage.

    Have you asked your accountant?

No Always done my own accounts as I quite enjoy it.
Just trying to make sure I get it right.
I know what you mean though I may place the purchase in my own name and claim my mileage. Many Thanks

It would be better to claim the mileage.

Remember you cannot claim all the VAT on a new car...might be the same for vans.

You may have trouble justifying a van if you are an IT contractor unless you move large pieces of equipment.

          Missunderstanding

Sorry folks I think I misled people.
It is a car that I have purchesed for work not a van.
I just thought a van classed differently to a car and wondered why.
          Thanks
