    Client want to pay me directly on their payroll rather than through an umbrella?

    hi guys,

    i've just been discussing sorting out a contract with the client i'm currently working for and the umbrella company i've chosen (i know i should have done it properly before starting but didn't as i found this job direct rather than through an agency and it was an urgent role). however it seems that my client would rather that i get paid directly via their payroll with a tax code that they assign, as opposed to me using an umbrella company. should i do it?

    I presume this would make you an employee of the client. You using a brolly would become unnecessary. I guess you could be better off if they are going to pay the agreed rate to you as gross pay as they would have to pay the employer's NI on top. It all depends on how they are going to calculate it. You would save the brolly fee as well.

          Unless you have your own Ltd. Co. this should be a better solution as you don't have to pay Employer NI which you would pay if you are using an umbrella company.

              Fixed Term Contract as they are commonly known. Make sure that you check their policy on expenses if you think you are likely to incur a lot. Either that or up your rate to cover it.

              You will also be treated as a member of staff so be prepared to put up with a few "permy" initiatives
