    Irish VAT

I'm looking into buying a Technet Plus subscription. The Microsoft web site says the following:
*All TechNet Plus Subscription sales for the EMEA region are fulfilled from Ireland by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited. VAT registered subscribers in EU countries outside of Ireland who provide a valid VAT number will be charged VAT at the zero rate (0%) under the Reverse Charge procedure. All subscribers located in Ireland and subscribers located outside Ireland but within the EU who have not provided a valid VAT number will be charged Irish VAT, currently at 21%.

I have registered for VAT (will then go for FRS) but haven't received my number yet. Therefore I can't put one on my order. On the FRS, I can't claim VAT back on purchases, right?

What happens in this instance? Ideally, I'm guessing I should wait until I have my VAT number and then buy? I'll just have to hope that it comes before the 30th September because MS are currently selling this for 20% off and 15 months for the price of 12 and I don't want to miss out on these offers.

    Thanks

If you do not have your VATY number you will not be able to reclaim any Irish VAT charged, not easily anyway#!

If you have a VAT number and are buying within the EU then provided they quote your VAT number they do not have to charge VAT.

    # There is a scheme that you can reclaim some VAT charged by EU suppliers, however the applications are usually subject to a minimum value, only certain items are allowed and the claim must be made in the language of the country you are claiming from, although this is not an issue for Irish claims. Unless you incur a great deal of foreign VAT, this is not usally worth the hassle.

      Thanks for the info Alan.
I am hopeful that my VAT application may come through soon, so I'll wait for now.
