VAT registration people asking for contract

    Hi,

Finally after more than two months, I have received a reply from VAT people, asking for my current contract with client.

Is it usual for them to ask for this?

Is it sufficient to send a photocopy of the contract as they haven't said whether they need a copy or the original.

    Regards.

The said they will happily accept a faxed copy of contract.

I've no idea, maybe some of the more experienced guys could answer that one... Maybe I'm a little wet behind the ears and think that they just want proof of earnings before allowing my company to regsiter for VAT

What I don't get is what happens if they don't accept it, but it is true. Do you have to pay them the VAT later when they change their minds, but meantime can't invoice it because you're not registered?
God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.

sneaky IR35 investigation - Unlikely but possible, now that IR and HMCE have merged into HMRC.

Still, VAT fraud is what's foremost in their minds, and it's unlikely that an overzealous VAT bod would take the initiative on IR35 because they have such different priorities.

In the meantime I can't invoice for it, but I can get it all back dated as long as I have specified "pending" or something on the invoice
