    URGENT QUERY - Cater Allen

    Hi all,

I've been contracting using an agency and finally set up a LTD company 2 weeks ago. Everything was going well until I found out I couldn't get a business bank account because of my adverse credit history.

All I need is a basic account that will accept my income via BACS. I don't need any credit facilities. Does Cater Allen provide such a bank account and is it worth me applying to them through contractor UK??

Your prompt responses would be HIGHLY appreciated as I feel soooo lost at the moment.

Well, I have a pretty hefty CCJ as I went into a debt management program 2 years ago (damned loans and credit cards). I've never missed a payment though.

But it's killing me that you can get a basic personal account and can't get a basic business account. I mean.....WTF????????????

There's nothing stopping you getting another personal account for business use, as long as you keep them completely separate and NEVER just withdraw money out of it for personal use. You won't get all the business services like free BACS payments, but other than that it should be fine.

I wouldn't be able to do that because it's a limited company and as such needs a bank account in the company's name.
I'm currently getting my income going into my personal account but it's PAYE. As a limited company I would be getting the gross income and save more tax.

Try Abbey. My credit record is more shagged than a hooker at dawn but they've given me two accounts in the past.

Did you tell them that you had a bad credit history prior to applying or did you just apply?
I called them on Friday to ask if they cater for the likes of us and they said no. At this point I don't want to apply and keep getting rejected so I've been calling banks to find out in advance.

                Sanyu,
I nearly opened a Natwest Business Account before Cater Allen, and on the aplication form it mentioned a type of account that catered for bad credit, (its the same account you just tick a box, to say you wont need credit).

You could try buying an off the shelf company with a bank account
