Can anyone reccomend a decent accountancy firm for IT contractors?

Hi all this is my first post so be gentle. Currently an IT contractor getting screwed in tax by parasol. Going to set up my own ltd comp but want an accountancy firm to do this and the deal with all tax issues after.
I believe you can see up to 83% of your earnings with a ltd but have heard that some accountants may not always manage this in the best possible way and you wont necessarily see all of that returned.
Have looked at a few firms and they all say that they are the best at what they do (obviously!) but vary in price.
Any help would be massively appreciated, obviously want to save some money on the monthy cost but would be willing to pay extra to see more of my monthy earnings!
    Thanks everyone much appreicated

As I have said often on here, you should be able to get a company set up free by an accountant.

Most accountants on here will be able to advise regarding tax issues etc, it then comes down to service and cost, I humbly believe we do well here

But would someone who is independent recommend using a local accountant that you can go and see or are they happy with dealing with them from a distance? I like the look of Nixon but I live in the south west of England.

I use a local mid-sized SME accountancy firm. They offer a wide range of accountancy and financial services but don't especially cater for contractors. The reason I use them is nothing to do with IT contracting.

I have a face to face meeting once a year to sign off the accounts and have a chat about business, otherwise its all phone, post and e-mail.

If you don't want to get too involved with the running of your limited and you're on standard IT contracts, then I guess a specialist contractor accountant would be the best bet, otherwise you'll have to make up for their lack of specific knowledge. In my opinion.

do you mean Parasol are not calculating the tax correctly or you are looking for a more tax efficent way of doing things?

(was thinking of using them that is all...)

I use Nixon Williams and I am very happy with the way they work. Respond promptly to any email enquiries and process the paperwork quickly and efficiently. Plus, they are cheaper then a few other listed on this board. Not being local to where I live is not a problem at all

If you want somebody local to you we used a chap in Lympsham for a fair while. PM me if you want his details. Prior to this our accountants were in Newark, it was fine until we had problems with vat investigations etc.

Of course I'm sure NW, SJD etc all have a strategy for dealing with these things remotely. I personally just never felt particularly comfortable with the idea.
