    Invoicing for backdated VAT

    Greetings,

My VAT registration took a while to come through so I haven't been able to charge VAT on the first few invoices. Since the registration goes back a few months, is it normal to issue an invoice for the past invoices' VAT only or do I have to take a different route? I've spent the day searching, on and off, but can't find any concrete information.

    Thanks,
    Steve.

Same happened to me. HMRC advised me to issue a VAT only invoice to recover the VAT I should have charged between the date of the registration (which they admitted was earlier than it should have been) and the date I started charging VAT. I think you should confirm with the HMRC VAT helpline though, they are quite helpful.
It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. www.areyoupopular.mobi

yep all you need is an invoice which states that the vat was incurred on invoice numbers 1,2 & 3 etc.

agency should pay up no problems.

Mine took two weeks to come through and become affective. I started invoicing for VAT once i got my number from HMRC. Decided to keep it simple.

Yep I've done the same mine took quite a bit longer than usual, and I'm still waiting for the invoice to be paid!

For whatever reason, I had to wait 4.5 months for mine to arrive, so I have a few grand to claim, I wish it had been simpler.

The invoice should be paid under the same terms as any other - i.e. 14 / 28 days - you should make sure you stipulate the payment terms on the invoice whatever it's for.

                    I do lol!

at the bottom of my invoices it says

PAYMENT DUE FROM DATE OF INVOICE!

Its for 2.5 grand as well, and they had constantly been late in paying invoices. I've email them several times and got a 'we are looking into it' reply
