    Self Assessment by 31st Jan??

Can someone please enlighten me on the self assessment tax process of this country please?

I downloaded the form (SA100) and it said, "Tax Return for Year ended 5 April 2006". As I have only been contracting (and earning money in this country) through a ltd since the middle of last year, I can only assume I don't need to do anything (from a personal tax perspective) until this time next year? At this point I will need to fill in a self assessment return by 31st Jan 2008 for income earned between 6 April 2006 and 5 April 2007...

I have answered my own question really but I just want to be sure... thanks

Er -does your limited have an accountant?

You are probably right by the way. If you weren't "ordinarily resident" in this country between 6th April 2005 and 5th April 2006 then you won't owe Gordo any money.

If you were resident and had overseas income then I think you will still need to complete the return but you might not have to pay any further tax if the income was received from (and tax paid to) a country with which the UK has a double-taxation agreement.

btw There is a reason that I don't charge for advice on taxation and that is because I have only a limited understanding of what I am talking about. An accountant would be able to give you a definitive answer.

You should calculate 60% of your revenue and send a cheque, made payable to CASH, off to Mr. G. Brown Esq. 11 Downing Street, London, SW1.

Once you have done that you can feel proud of you contribution to society.

Will I then receive an Honour?
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

          No
The deadline next year is much earlier for paper based copies - 31st October!
          Online is still 31st January.
Certainly my accountant does paper-based - and is already stressed over the change of deadline!
