Try not to get too carried away with the 'being your own boss' guff. Despite protestations on here, vast majority are still going to a place of work and being responsible to someone else for what they do.
The co is simply a vehicle to process the revenue coming in and is a pain in the ass way of doing that most of the time. Seen a few people overly impressed with themselves when they start off and it doesn't ever impress friends or partners !
Still, it's nice when the cash starts pouring in !Comment

You see, it is attitudes like that that make my blood boil.Originally posted by lukemgTry not to get too carried away with the 'being your own boss' guff. Despite protestations on here, vast majority are still going to a place of work and being responsible to someone else for what they do.
That is exactly the argument the IR use for IR35.
If that argument were true then the only proper businesses in the world would be those who manufacture something and then sell it.
Any company producing something for a client or providing a service to a client is responsible to the client for the period of the contract, or for the delivery of the ordered item.
How the hell can we hope to argue IR35 when you are saying stuff like that.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

I'd fully recommend Nixon Williams

I want to get the feeling that i am responsible for what i do - and i collect the benefits and the liabilities. Growing , while in a perm job , is basically licking someone's ass plus alot of luck. I am sure contracting is also about licking , but at least u can get the **** out of there if you cant handle it anymore.
My dream is to create ( be part of ) a company where contractors share values/knowledge and help each other to handle more easily the ****** IT progress. Theoretically, if you dont plan for grow/partnering ( and you are alone) , you should be doomed. What i mean is that, say you are on a 6 months contract for lots of money, you work all the time and do everything as expected ( yes including documentaion ). After 6 months you look around to find that MS has released 5 freakin versions of their 5 million products, and no one cares what u know anymore...Last edited by 2uk; 25 January 2007, 23:33.Comment

Could you give me the details of this person Mike? Email to mark@justgofaster.com if that's easier than pm - thanks.Originally posted by MikeB View PostHi,
I live in Glasgow and Quay are in Poole. I've since changed to a recommended Accountant in Glasgow, meaning I can have face-to-face meetings which makes a big difference to me. I'm also paying a bit more (£90 per month) and getting better advice.
Cheers,
Mike
